The world's first 3D printing electric car will be unveiled this month at the Eastern Conference on plastics industry in the United States (PLASTECEast). The Strati, an electric car developed by LocalMotors (Chandler, Arizona, USA), took 44 hours of 3D printing, plus 10 hours of grinding. The assembly of the car requires less than 50 components.

When Strati first made its debut in 2015, Clare Goldsberry described the patented manufacturing process:
The first step is laminated manufacturing. Using carbon fiber reinforced plastic ABS, the current Strati model to print 212 of the time needed for about 44 hours. The result of this step is a complete 3D print automotive structure.
The second step is to cut. When the 3D print is complete, the car structure will be transferred to a Thermwood CNC trimmer. After several hours of milling, exterior detail of Strati is formed.
The final step in the 3D printing process is rapid assembly. After completion of the printing and finishing of the automotive structural parts, other 3D - free components, including transmission systems, electrical components, instrumentation, wiring and tyres, will be installed. Vinyl wrap, paint, or other surface treatments will be used to improve the texture of 3D printing to make it suitable for display in showrooms
